Services at the Southdowns Nursing Home
The Southdowns
Nursing home has on-site catering and laundry services for residents.
Therapeutic activities are provided for those who wish to participate.
Catering
Our extremely modern kitchen is staffed to a very high standard
which is reflected in the excellent menus available. Each meal is
prepared from scratch within the kitchens and no "pre-made"
items are used. Meals are not only delicious, but also consider
food groups and nutritional needs of individuals. Outside of the
menus, personal needs are also catered for. Special diets of course
are also available for people needing them (low sugar, sodium, protein
etc.)
Fresh fruit,
biscuits and home made cakes are available with hot and cold drinks
are available throughout the day.
Laundry
All bed linen and towels are supplied and are all washed on our
premises. A choice of duvets, or sheets and blankets is available.
All personal
items are laundered at no extra cost and a labelling service is
available at request. We can arrange from Dry cleaning, but this
is not supplied onsite.
Activities
A range of both therapeutic and fun activities are provided for
those who wish to take part. Residents are encouraged to pursue
their own personal interests wherever possible. We understand the
difference between entertainment and activity; hence we create a
nice balance between the two as a result.
We ask friends/family,
again, where possible, to help us complete "social assessments"
so we can get to know people, not just through their illness, but
through their history, so we can really see residents for who they
are and not just for what they need.
Other
Services
Southdowns will provide some respite care if we are able. However,
due to the massive demand of quality units such as ourselves, the
chances of a bed are low and we do not reserve a space for this
service.
Assessment
Many people visit and are very unsure about the suitability of our
unit for their friend or loved one. We, with no expectations, will
always assess on request and give an open and honest opinion, in
our personal view, of where the "we are now" and possibilities
for the future.
