Nursing Home Accommodation
Southdowns
Nursing home is centrally heated and double glazed throughout -
and all living areas are carpeted. The caring environment provides
for individual comfort and space whilst providing a feeling of safety
and security. The communal space, along with the room sizes, comfortably
exceed the national minimum requirements.
We have 5 separate
lounges, two dining areas, 5 individual bath/shower rooms and of
course, all rooms are single and ensuite. We have two main lounges,
but recognise the need for "quieter" lounges, for residents
who prefer times of quiet and reflection.
All bedrooms
can be painted to suit each patient before admission and all are
furnished to the highest modern standards. However, we do, if possible,
encourage the use of personal items and furniture as this can be
beneficial, no only for comfort, but also for orientation. Obviously,
fire and safety must be considered.
Temperatures
all around the home are monitored regularly and as a safety precaution,
all radiators are covered. All water temperatures are also closely
monitored and kept at a safe level.
A nurse call
system is installed in each room and each resident is assessed individually
in the use of this system. Each room also has sockets for electrical
items, television and phone line.
The gardens
are safe and secure, but in an unobtrusive way. We have preserved
the "natural" feeling of the stunning scenery by using
tasteful borders. We do not believe that gardens are for summer
only and actively encourage external "walks" throughout
all of the seasons, which appropriate measures taken of course.
Parties and
barbecues throughout the year (even in autumn!) are arranged for
both residents and relatives. These events can be a great way to
meet people who have had similar experiences and hence can be a
great support to people who can otherwise be quite isolated in their
experience.
